WHO WE ARE
History
We have been around for a while! 19 years in fact. Originally conceived from an alliance of 3 notable pre-press companies back in 1987, and know affectionately as ‘The Litho Origination Group’. The company has continued to grow in a controlled and structured way to answer the technical needs of our ever growing list of publishing clients.



A brief timeline...

1987 Litho Origination group founded, by George Berg & David Brin, consists of three independent repro companies. Colour Planners, Colour Origination and Colour Scanners.

1991 Litho Origination group invests £650.000 on a new Scitex Assembler Plus Workstation, and installs it first Postscript Rip, turnover rises to £3.5m PA, staff levels now at 70.

1992 Publishers embrace the Apple Mac for page make up production. Typical specification. Apple Mackintosh Classic 2/40, 2Mb of Ram (expandable to 4Mb) 40Mb hard drive, running a 8MHz processor, approx £900 per unit.

1995 Wace Group announces its decision to withdraw from the magazine repro market as a supplier, casting a shadow over magazine repro as a source of profitable business. Colour Systems buck the trend announcing major investments in kit and capacity, staff levels rise to 95.

1997 Chairman John Heck announces the group’s commitment towards a ‘totally digital’ environment. “We believe it’s the only route to take. Digital pre-press and communications technology is taking us even closer to our clients and printers because it enables us to continue to produce top quality repro, to very tight deadlines”

2000 Litho Origination Group celebrates its 12th anniversary; Colour Systems collaborates in the production of over 60 weekly and monthly consumer and business titles, employing 120 staff, clients include Emap, IPC, BBC magazines and Readers Digest.

2002 Colour Systems wins the PPA 'Production Initiative of the Year Award' for 'System Assets', turnover now £7m PA, staff levels 140.

2003 Group restructure, now 'Fresh Media Group' consisting 5 unique divisions.

2005 Colour Systems wins the PPA 'Magazine Repro Company of the Year Award'. Turnover rises to £12m PA, staff levels 200.
